Morning on the dunes
The trip to the desert was vacation, but that doesn't seem to stop God from teaching me. I'm very glad of that. I was able to go with three other christians from various walks of life and learned alot sharing with and hearing from them. One activity we did was share devotions that God was teaching us while in the desert. One such devotion was about waiting for God's best.
On the first day out we were driving hours and hours through flat sandy areas. We saw some small rocks, but nothing big. Then the rocks started getting larger and we started to see small sand dunes infrequently dotting the landscape. Being the excitable ones that we are we asked the driver to stop and spend about half an hour playing in these dunes. We had a great time. Then we packed up our things and headed on the way.
Only a few hours further our guide pointed out the tops of a few dunes in the distance; again we were thrilled. But these dunes were neither small or infrequent. We were at the edge of a vast landscape of dunes as far as the eye could see. Not just one dune but hundreds. Our guide told us that the dunes stretched like that all the way to Libya.
We had been so content with the one small dune that we couldn't wait for the hundreds of dunes that God had planned for us. Does that sound similar in your life? It does in mine. I have to fight each day to wait on God for exactly what he has planned for me. Not the small victories that I want each day, but the divine victories that He wants to give me. I want to be excitedly satisfied for a cup of His spirit when He wants me to swim in the waves. I strain to feel the breeze, but His gusts are just around the corner.
